Monograms on Monday

I had to share this great item I found courtesy of the wonderful blogger at "Heaven's to Betsy." It's a mini monogram necklace from Bauble Bar.  I love the layered look and you can bet I will be stopping over there on this monday to get a quick mongram fix!

A New Staple?

I just recevied the new J Crew catalogue and spotted what could be a new staple in my wardrobe. It's the painter boatneck tee. J Crew desctibes it as follows:

"Spun from silky slub cotton jersey, our painter tees love to be layered but are substantial enough to go it alone (the hallmark of a true wardrobe staple, if you ask us). Forever fans of a classic boatneck, we're smitten with this version's slim body and fully functional gold-button hardware for a luxe touch of polish."

It's just the look I like, neat and trim. Polished and yet not stuffy. And it comes in a huge varitety of colors. You can bet I will be checking it out!

Summer Sports

Othe AGB and CMB play summer sports as well as the fall and spring ones. Tournament baseball seems like maybe I am boring you with it so here is a picture opf summer lacrosse league.  We are still the Coyotes. I never played as a kid but CMB sure likes it.  She is big and fast and pretty strong for U9. Did you play as a kid?

Summer Reading

Nothing says summer like a good read whether it's done on the beach or not. I've always loved Edith Wharton novels, they take you back to a different time and the descriptions are so rich and amazing. The two books below take the original novels reimagine them on a different time and place but the rich descriptions and feelings remain.  I really enjoyed these and recomend them! What are you reading this summer?

The Innocents take the Age of Innocence and places it in a contemporary North London Jewish neighborhood where Adam Newland is newly engaged to Rachel Gilbert when he meets her cousin Effie. I think this book is a little more sympathetic and that Rachel and Adam learn to be happy where as I am sure May and Archer were not as lucky.
The Gilded Age reimagines The House of Mirth in upper crust Clevland society.  This wasn't one of my favorite Edith Wharton books but I still enjoyed it. I always wanted to shake Lilly Bart and wanted to do the same here. I'm not quite done with this one so I can't say how true to the original inspiration it is but so far it's close!

Summer Harvest

One of the things I love about summer is the garden.  We mostly plant herbs and tomatoes. That's really what grows best. We are about to have a huge tomatoe party.  I don't really care for groicery store tomatoes but these are amazing!

Some 4th Fun

On the 4th of July the block my sister lives on has an enormous block party. AGB was playing in a baseball tournament so I took CMB and OPB for the fun. And there was a lot of fun ot be had!

OPB and CMB in the little pool in the front yard with some friends. If you look closely in the background you can see them inflating the giant waterslide in the center of the strret.
CMB in the dunk tank.  She thought this was really funny and spent a great deal of time there.
OPB marshalling what he refered to as his minions. Otherwise knon as his cousin E and her friend P. It took both of them to make the super soaker work.
Later in the evening there were sparklers. I used to love sparklers and CMB did too. All and all a good time was had by all. The kids were super tired by the time we got home and totally crashed.

30% off Pretties

J Crew has been having a 30% off sale in their brick and mortar stores for a week or so and I poped in on Friday to see if there was anything I had to have.  There wasn't any clothing items that I needed or wanted by I did pick up the pretties below for a song. First is the darling giraffe bracelet. I didn't care for the Ram headed one. I thought it was creepy. Like something you would wear if you were cast in a remake of Rosemary's baby. But this one was darling. I also grabbed the anchor pendant in blue. and the anchor bauble bracelet in ivory and gold. Theya re heavey and well amde and remind me of some of the wonderful old school jewlery J Crew used to make. They are some fun pieces and since I got all three for less than $100, I feel pretty good about my pretties. Especially since I noticed the girafee one on the web site this morning still at the full price of $98.  It was priced at $34 in my store, plus the 30% off. Worth checking out I think

Superbowl

Sorry I have been MIA for a bit but I have been super busy.  I am president of our local little league and it is all star time.  Our league was asked to host a tournament called the Minors Superbowl.  It is a 4 day, single elimination tournament and had 17 teams platying in it. Needless to say I was at the park 24/7 for those 4 days as well as the day before getting ready and the day after cleaning up.  It helped that AGB made that team so he was playing during that time.  Our team did really well and reached the final game but lost 6-4.  Still we were proud of our SMLLA team!  It was a fun, but exhausting 4 days and I think a good time was had by all.  Here you see out ream lined up for the National Anthem.  AGB is number 44 wearing the catcher gear.  Interestingly, although he was the number one pitcher on his team during the regular season, he spent most of this tournament behind the plate as catcher.
